An historical barn was on its last legs.  Due to a technicality in the zoning bylaw, it needed to be torn down and replaced before it had a chance to fall down on its own. 

The project that ensued focused on thrift,  sustainability and an industrial vibe.  The resulting project was dubbed the "gourmet garage" by the contractor, but is still referred to as "the barn" by the homeowners.

All of the project materials were environmentally friendly from the foundation to the roofing.  Most of the demolition materials were repurposed.  The loft interior sports recycled barn board siding on the walls and tables made from the sugar maple that had to be taken down to make room for the new foundation.
